Asheville's Best Craftsmen

Mark Marshall, co-owner of APB&I is a third generation builder/artisan. His passion for quality craftsmanship is not limited to just the built aesthetic. It also includes the drive to create excellent client relations and project affordability. Through this diverse focus he has built his company’s name to stand the test of time.

Mark has owned and operated APB&I since 1998 and his experience has ranged from historic restorations, new home construction and additions, small and large scale renovations as well as commercial and residential interior finishes. His diverse background brings a wealth of knowledge to the table for any of your construction/renovation needs.

Mark is an avid mountain biker who enjoys hikes with his family and any opportunities of travel to study architectural history as well as new sustainable building practices. Mark and Gini built one of the first green homes in WNC in 1998, creating a three story French cottage inspired, passive solar home. They used 0%VOC paints, traditional hand rubbed wax finishes and lumber that was harvested and milled within 20 miles of the home site. They also incorporated many unique antique architectural elements into the design. The solid mahogany front doors were reclaimed from a library in England. Mark continues to find innovative ways to incorporate unique architectural elements into his designs through local shops and resources. Whether recycling furniture, doors, mantles and hardware or incorporating new environmental technologies into the design, his holistic approach to sustainable building is the ultimate in reduce, reuse and recycle. APB&I takes sustainable building to the next level without sacrificing aesthetic and quality.

Gini Crowder-Marshall has loved architecture and interior design since she was a little girl. Her mother used to return from work to find that Gini had re-arranged the living room to create more flow to the space. As a child she spent many evenings walking the neighborhoods of Washington DC to look in people’s windows to see how their furniture was arranged or the fabric choices they’d made. She was in fact, a peeping Tom but cared not of what the people were doing, only what they were sitting on. She pursued her studies in interior design as an adult and has been working with Mark since 1998. She has traveled throughout Europe to study architecture and design and loves to incorporate these elements into her current creations. In the 1990s, she worked as a manager and buyer for a European Antique importer. Her passion for interesting objects and architectural elements as well as true artisanship grew from this experience.
